Not too much in ways of work to show lately.  I've got my Lighting Project, which I'm sure I can render some shots for, but I'm not done with the second scene, the simulated lighting scene.  Thankfully I finished the Final Gathering lighting scene on campus before Spring Break, so now I can work on the rest at home without worrying too much about render time.

We'll see though, I still haven't fully decided which scene I want to light.  I don't get lighting as much as texturing and modeling, but it's all pretty new, I'm sure I'll pick it up well enough.

So of course I'm still awake and doing something that's not immediately important.  I guess I don't like the concept of having to sleep, heh.  As those who've known me since I lived in Chi-town probably know, I had a short lived webcomic which got a surprising following in the Chicagoland area despite only being ten pages long, ha.

Well over the years I've worked on it here and there, since I'm still in love with the characters I created.  As my art improved (despite not practicing....) and my original story matured, I decided I would redo the comic eventually, creating a much more linear storyline and give the characters more dimensionality.

I know, I know.  Some of you are reading this and realize I've been saying I've wanted to work on, or have been doing things related to the comic for years.  I have no plans on doing this as regularly as possible.  The current plan is to work on it when I have time, try to write what I can and then run it by Sisco and M.

Sisco would technically be my co-author as he's the leading authority on all things Amano.  M would be my go to girl for many things comic related, as well as helping me get a fresh pair of eyes on pacing, and how the average reader would make sense of the writing in general.  I couldn't do this without either of them.  Last but not least, I should give credit to my good friend Jess for helping keep me inspired to do my comic by working on one herself.

Hopefully you guys will start seeing some artwork for the revamped Ne0 Pirates (possible title change, no idea yet) in the near future.  I'm starting to set up and experiment on how I'm actually going to do the comic.  I'm going to work in large scale (11 x 17), try inking by hand first (with lots of white out....), scanning and then coloring digitally.  I haven't decided my coloring style yet, but I have a feeling it'll be a blend between smooth shading and cel shaded.  Smooth for colors, cel for shadows and lights likely.  I'll have to play with it.  The comic is most likely going to be full color and hosted on here as a tab, or possibly linked from here.  I still need to work out how I want to solve navigation.  So much to do, so much homework to procrastinate on by working on my comic........wait a second....I'm not supposed to be typing that!

That probably is a sign that I should be heading to bed.  Guess I should obey my yawning, groggy body.  Good night and help motivate me to work on this project =)

I spent a long time working on my textures and I could do better, but I just didn't have the time.  I think I did a half decent job, but then again, I'm a beginner, so who knows.  I was at the DAC until about 1:30 tonight putting the final touches on my model and hopefully it gets a good grade.  I'm excited to see what Jess did and how things will look once we combine our model again.

Well I think tomorrow we start lighting, hopefully I have a bit of time to relax over the weekend, it's just been so hectic lately and I'd like to work on something personal.  I can't wait to see everybody else's work tomorrow, this has just been a blast, even if I'm sleeping very little and putting in a lot of hours on my school work, lol.

Anyway, here's some of the renders for you guys.  The glow is a temp in until I can figure out a much better version.

I've been spending a ridiculous amount of time trying to get these textures on my model.  With the help of Ellie and Sam, my metal is looking more like metal and less like plastic.  Thanks a bunch you guys =).  Also, adding in all those little details like grime in crevices and edges is very time consuming, but the overall result is coming out nicely.

I still have three more materials to finish and then I can call it done.  It's due on Thursday, short time frame to do this project, but I should have a decent result when I'm finished.  I'll have some pictures probably tomorrow night up for viewing, but for now, I'm wrapping up at the DAC and heading home.  I'm exhausted and need to sleep for class tomorrow.
